February 16, 2025 Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has provided scholarships to the meritorious wards of the Rural Development Scheme (RDS) members of Bogura, Rajshahi and Rangpur zones. 191 students from various engineering, specialized and public universities and medical colleges among the wards of the project members were awarded scholarships on February 16, 2025, Sunday, at a ceremony organized at Hotel Mom-Inn in Bogura. Professor Dr. Mohammed Masud Rahman, Chairman, Risk Management Committee of the Bank graced the program as the chief guest which was presided over by Mohammed Monirul Moula, Managing Director of the Bank. Md. Altaf Hossain, Additional Managing Director, Abu Sayed Md. Idris, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of the Bank’s Retail Investment Wing, Prof. Dr. Hosne-Ara Begum, Founder Executive Director of Thengamara Mahila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS), Md. Abdul Wahed, Vice Principal of Govt. Azizul Haque College- Bogura and Mawlana Md. Alamgir Hossain, President of Bogura Imam and Ulama Parishad addressed as special guests. Roni Ahmed and Md. Dilruba Alia, students of BUET, Ratul Hasan from Dhaka Medical College, Md. Ashraful Islam, Dilip Kumar Das and Md. Asma Begum from Dhaka University, Md. Nur Jannat Tumpa and Md. Abul Khair from Rajshahi Medical College, Lovely Akhter Banu of Suhrawardy Medical College, Md. Mahbubur Rahman of Mymensingh Agricultural University and Md. Redwan Hossain, Assistant Engineer of NESCO- Bogura expressed feelings on behalf of the scholarship recipients, parents, and former recipients. Alongside recipients, and parents, the event was attended by various officials from the bank; s head office and 3 zones.

Professor Dr. Mohammed Masud Rahman said in his speech as chief guest that Islami Bank has made an unforgettable contribution to the overall economic development of the country. Obstacles to the development of the bank have been removed and the bank will play its role more smoothly in the coming days.

The Bank’s public welfare programs will be further expanded. He called upon on the emerging students to work with honesty and dedication for national development.

Mohammad Monirul Moula, in his presiding speech said that Islami Bank is the bank of mass people of the country, regardless of class or creed. In addition to its top position in all business indicators including deposits, investments, foreign remittance collection, import and export, it is playing the role of a constant partner in the country’s economic development, including industrialization, entrepreneurship development, and employment creation. Islami Bank’s Rural Development Project is the world’s largest Islamic microfinance program. This project is playing a leading role in rural development, poverty alleviation, social development, and women’s empowerment.

It was disclosed at the event that Islami Bank’s Rural Development Scheme is currently working to improve the living standards of 18 lakh members in more than 34,000 villages in 64 districts of the country under the bank’s 517 operating units. Since 2012, the Bank has spent Tk. 2.37 billion on educational assistance, training, health sector, relief and rehabilitation, and environmental protection activities under integrated development program, directly benefiting 19 lakh people. During this period, Tk. 910 million has been spent on the education sector alone, benefiting 480,000 people. Under the project’s education support program, scholarships are provided to graduation and higher secondary level students, and educational materials are provided to primary and secondary level students. In addition, the Scheme operates 680 pre-primary schools and maktabs for minor babies across the country. – Press release
