The Board of Directors elected him to the position on Wednesday.
Prior to this, he served as an independent director of the bank.
Prof Zubaidur Rahman began his career in 1975 as a lecturer at the Department of Finance of Dhaka University. He later earned a PhD in Finance from the University of Manchester, UK.
His academic career includes roles such as Professor at the State University of New York, Visiting Professor at Bocconi University in Italy, and Visiting Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, and Moscow State University, Russia.
He is also the founder and Vice Chancellor of ZNRF University of Management Sciences (ZUMS) in Dhaka.
Outside academia, Prof Zubaidur worked as an independent adviser to companies, governments and international organisations in developing and emerging economies.
His expertise includes strategic advice, change management, financial accountability and corporate governance.
As a senior staff member at the World Bank, he focused on strengthening institutional capacity for financial transparency, accountability, and governance in both public and private sectors.
He notably led the design and rollout of the ‘Standards and Codes Initiative’ to support global financial stability.
In this role, he engaged in policy dialogue with senior government officials, built partnerships and enhanced institutional capacity.
Prof Zubaidur Rahman also played a key role in establishing Deloitte’s operations in Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, helping to develop market economies in those countries, reports UNB.
