Dhaka, Monday, September 8, 2025: Nurun Nahar Begum, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of BRAC Bank, has won the Best Woman CTO Award from a renowned magazine in the United Kingdom.

London-based Women’s Tabloid Publications UK conferred the Best Woman CTO Award in the Bangladesh banking sector for her contribution to the banking sector, especially in the field of technology.

The Women's Tabloid Awards 2025 programme aims to celebrate and honour exceptional women in leadership and CXO roles, women entrepreneurs, and organisations that have demonstrated remarkable commitment to women-centric initiatives and made a significant impact in their respective fields.

The bank’s homegrown talent Nurun Nahar Begum is an iconic figure in Bangladesh as one of the leading women in technology. Nahar, the first and only female CTO in Bangladesh banking sector, stands as a pioneering figure in Bangladesh’s tech-driven banking revolution. With over 25 years of experience in financial technology, she is recognised not only as a senior leader but also as a national role model for women in technology.

In a traditionally male-dominated field, Nurun Nahar Begum has consistently broken barriers - setting standards, building systems, mentoring the next generation, and delivering sustainable results. Her work has not only positioned BRAC Bank as a digital leader but also redefined what women can achieve in the technology space in Bangladesh and beyond.

Commenting on her international recognition, Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO, BRAC Bank, said: “Nahar is a key driver of the digital transformation journey of BRAC Bank. Right from the inception of the bank, she has contributed enormously towards building a strong technology infrastructure in the bank. Her extensive experience was crucial in implementing numerous digital projects aimed at ensuring a fast, easy, convenient, and safe banking experience for our valued customers. This is a proud moment for the BRAC Bank family, and I think this accolade will inspire more corporate professionals to excel in their careers in Bangladesh.”

Beyond technology, Nahar champions women’s empowerment through her leadership of “TARA Forum,” BRAC Bank’s internal women’s forum, which has played a transformative role in making the bank one of the most women-friendly workplaces in the country.  – Press release
