The government has extended again the tenure of the committee formed to review the 2016 Bangladesh Bank reserve heist by two more months until December 31, 2025 to submit its recommendations.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard yesterday.

Earlier, on March 11, 2025 the government formed the high-level review committee headed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul to review matters related to the reserve heist.

The committee was initially asked to submit its recommendations within three months, but its tenure was extended twice. The latest term expired on October 31, 2025.

The committee was tasked with reviewing the progress of previous investigations, assessing actions taken by the government, identifying responsibilities related to the reserve theft, and making recommendations to prevent such incidents in future, reports BSS.

On February 4, 2016, $81 million was stolen from the reserves of Bangladesh Bank.
