Egyptian writer’s book on Russell to be launched on his 60th birthday

“The Moon was Assassinated”, a book on brutal murder of  Sheikh Russell, written by noted Egyptian writer Mohssen Al Arishie will be published on his 60th birthday.

‘Sedin Tara Chand Hatya Korechhilo’, Bengali version of Mohssen Al Arishie’s book on Sheikh Russell, youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be launched on October 18.

It’s the Egyptian writer’s third book- two on Sheikh Hasina-focusing on the struggle of Sheikh Hasina for democracy as well as War of Liberation of Bangladesh.

In July this year, the book was first launched in Cairo and Anindya Prakash published the book in Bangla.

Professor of Islamic studies at Jagannath University Dr Mohd Nazrul Islam, Islamic Foundation deputy director (research) Muhammad Mujib Ullah Farhad, Deputy Postmaster General, Fardipur Mohammad Tarkiul Islam and Senior Assistant Secretary Dhaka South City Corporation Md Jahangir Alam translated the book in Bangla.

Mohssen Al Arishie, an Egyptian writer, journalist and researcher, is likely to attend the cover unveiling ceremony of the book tobe held at National Museum at Shahbagh here under the arrangement of ‘31st BCS Cadre Association’. 

Talking to BSS, the association president Abdullah Al Hadi said Arishie portrayed how brutally a ten-year-old child Sheikh Russell was killed along with most of his family members including father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, founding father of Bangladesh, and his mother Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib on the fateful night of August 15, 1975.

Bangabandhu’s two daughters incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana escaped the massacre as they were abroad.
Bangabandhu’s childhood and scenario of anti-British movement were also depicted thoroughly and chronologically in the 160-page book, said Hadi.

Arishie’s Arabic book on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was published at Amar Ekushey Book Fair in 2019.
Bangla Academy published the 296-page translated version of the book on Sheikh Hasina in Bangla titled ‘Sheikh Hasina: Ja Rup Katha Shudu Rup Katha Noy’.

Arishie penned another book on Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina titled-“Devine Destiny: The legend of a father, a daughter and the holy bond” in English.

Born on 17th March in 1955 in the city of Giza, Egypt, Arishie did his graduation in Law from Cairo University. Later, he did his master’s in Sariah and post graduate diploma from International Institute for Mass Communication, New Delhi, India.

He started his career in journalism and served as managing editor of the Egyptian-Gazette, the oldest English-language newspaper in the Middle East.

He wrote in a weekly column in the Egyptian Gazette for more than two decades and served as the editor and translator at Art Publications at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

He worked at Harper Collins Publishers, a publishing house in the United States.

He won the Egyptian Press Syndicate Award in 2006 for his article on political analysis on the US invasion of Iraq, reports BSS.
