The para-military Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 1.18 crore during separate anti-smuggling drives along the Sylhet border areas.

According to a BGB release issued today, patrol teams of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted drives in different border areas under Sonalichela, Banglabazar, Sangram, Protappur, Kalasadek and Panthumai BOPs.

During the drives, BGB members seized huge quantities of Indian cumin, sugar, bidis, blankets, medicines, liquor and cattle. They also recovered a large quantity of tea leaves while those were being smuggled to India from Bangladesh.

“The estimated seizure value of the recovered goods is Tk 1,18,39,500,” the release signed by Commanding Officer of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Haque this evening.

He said BGB’s operational activities and intelligence surveillance are continuing to ensure border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking, reports BSS.

Necessary legal actions are being taken against the seized goods in accordance with the existing laws, the BGB added.
