Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to install a pillar near the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat on Thursday allegedly violating international border rules, officials said on Friday.

According to BGB sources, members of the force rushed to the spot after receiving information that BSF personnel were trying to install a pillar near international pillar No. 806.

BGB members obstructed the work, saying no structure can be built within 150 yards of the border in line with international regulations.

Following the intervention, BSF personnel stopped the work and left the area, the sources said.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) Lt Col Naziyur Rahman confirmed the incident, reports UNB.

“There is no scope to install any pillar within 150 yards of the border. BGB immediately prevented the attempt after receiving the information,” he said.

He also said a meeting at the sector commander level was held over the issue and an official protest was lodged.
