Gold worth Tk 13.33cr seized, suspect held at Chuadanga border

BGB seized nearly seven kilograms of gold worth an estimated Tk 13.33 crore and arrested a suspected smuggler during an intelligence-based operation at the Darshana border in Chuadanga today.


According to a BGB press release, members of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) conducted the operation in the Parkestpur border area after receiving intelligence that a large consignment of gold was being smuggled into India through the Darshana border.

Under the direction of Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan, a special BGB team was deployed in the area at around 4:20 pm.

The team intercepted a man riding a motorcycle towards Border Pillar 78 and detained him. A body search led to the recovery of 39 gold bars of different sizes.

The seized gold weighed 6.968 kilograms and has an estimated market value of Tk 13.33 crore.

The arrested man was identified as Rabiul Islam, 34, a resident of Chhoygharia village in Darshana.

BGB also seized a motorcycle, a mobile phone and Tk 140 in cash from his possession, reports BSS.
