Smuggled goods, drugs worth Tk 28 lakh seized in Kushtia

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large consignment of drugs and smuggled goods, including yaba, Indian phensedyl, liquor, various types of tablets and leaf cigarettes, in separate operations along the Kushtia border. 


One suspected smuggler was arrested during the operations.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commanding officer of BGB-47, confirmed the information in a press release this afternoon.

According to the BGB statement, acting on intelligence information, a team conducted a raid in Mollapara area of Daulatpur upazila around 11.30pm on Tuesday and arrested a suspected smuggler, Lalun Hossain, 40. Twenty-six pieces of Indian yaba and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

Later, in the early hours of today, BGB personnel conducted a raid near Rarpara in Chilmari area and recovered 29 bottles of Indian liquor, 1,000 dexamethasone tablets, 1,980 cyproheptadine tablets and 480 packets of leaf cigarettes abandoned at the site.

In a separate operation in the Sheoratala field area, another BGB team recovered 24 bottles of Indian phensedyl, 1,130 cyproheptadine tablets, 1,160 dexamethasone tablets and 40 packets of leaf cigarettes.

Meanwhile, a patrol team from Ramkrishnapur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted an operation in the Nijpara field area in the early morning and recovered 20 bottles of Indian liquor, 520 cyproheptadine tablets and 240 packets of leaf cigarettes.

The total estimated value of the seized goods is Taka 28,22,450.

BGB said legal proceedings against arrested Lalun Hossain are underway. It added that intelligence activities and operations will continue to prevent smuggling, drug trafficking and other illegal activities along the border, reports BSS.
