UP member shot near Myanmar border; out of danger, say docs

Cox's Bazar, Mar 11 - A Union Parishad (UP) member was shot at Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban on Monday afternoon. 

Saber Hossain, who was shot, went to the border of Jamchhari area to inquire about the fleeing members of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP). He was standing near the zero line of the border when a bullet suddenly hit his left knee, witnesses said.

He was accompanied by local journalists at the time. They rescued him and brought him to the Upazila Health Center.

Naikhongchhari Press Club President Abdul Hamid was also present when Saber Hossain was shot. He said heavy gunfire could be heard on the other side of the border after 4pm. Suddenly, Saber Hossain was shot.

The injured UP member was sent to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital after receiving first aid.

Earlier on Monday, amid a conflict between the Myanmar military and the armed rebel group in Myanmar’s Rakhine, 29 members of  Border Guard Police (BGP) took shelter again in Bangladesh. - UNB
