Lalmonirhat, Sept 26 - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held an Indian citizen for illegally crossing the border through the Bagbhandar area in Lalmonirhat on Wednesday night.

The arrested has been identified as Md. Mozaffar Hossain (48), son of Mohammad Ali, from Madarganj village under Sahibganj police station in Cooch Behar, India.

Major Mofazzal Hossain, commander of the 15th Battalion of BGB in Lalmonirhat, confirmed the information.

According to a statement by the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15th BGB), they received a tip-off last night regarding two Indian men illegally crossing into Bangladesh near border pillar 957/MP in the Dalvita area under Bhurungamari police station, Kurigram. The individuals were reportedly spotted behaving suspiciously around 600 yards inside the Bangladesh border at the Votahat market.

In response, a regular BGB patrol team, led by the commander of the Bagbhandar Border Outpost (BOP), reached the location around 8:15 PM. They approached the two suspects for questioning. Initially, both claimed to be Bangladeshi and said they were in the market to purchase medicine.

However, when further challenged, one of the men fled back into Indian territory, while the other was apprehended. Later, he was handed over to Bhurungamari police station.

A case has been filed against him for illegal entry into Bangladesh, said BGB 15th Battalion commander Major Mofazzal Hossain.-UNB
