BGB arrests the AL leader while he was allegedly trying to flee to India

Jashore, Nov 19 - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained Awami League's Gazipur Metropolitan unit Vice-President and former Gazipur City Corporation panel mayor, Asadur Rahman Kiron, while he was allegedly trying to flee to India through the Shikarpur border in Sharsha upazila of Jashore.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from Shikarpur Border Outpost (BOP) under the 49th Battalion of BGB, led by the commanding officer, conducted a raid in the Betna area around 11:30 last night. During the operation, Kiron was apprehended.

According to BGB officials, Kiron admitted during initial interrogation that he had arranged his escape to India with the assistance of a local human trafficker, Nur Nabi, from Ramchandrapur village. He reportedly agreed to pay BDT 100,000 for the illegal border crossing.

Legal proceedings are underway, and Kiron has been handed over to Sharsha Police Station for further investigation.-UNB
