13 Bangladeshi Nationals Detained by BSF Identified

Thirteen Bangladeshi nationals were detained by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the Tamabil Sonatila border in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman, Commander of BGB Battalion 48, on Wednesday morning.


The detainees were accused of illegal border crossing and smuggling and were subsequently handed over to the Dawki Police Station, Rahman added.

According to sources, nine of the detainees are from Jaintapur, while the remaining four hail from Gowainghat. The individuals have been identified as follows:

1. Saju Ahmed, 20, son of Fakhrul Islam (Jaintapur)
2. Sajib, 19, son of Mostafa Mia (Jaintapur)
3. Ruhul, 20, son of Bilal Hossain (Jaintapur)
4. Arif, 19, son of Ilal (Jaintapur)
5. Mobarak, 19, son of Jamal (Guchhagram)
6. Roni, 19, son of Abdullah (Guchhagram)
7. Sohag, 19, son of Bashir (Guchhagram)
8. Fakhrul Islam, 19, son of Ibrahim Ali (Dultipur)
9. Rubel, 25, son of Jamrul (Sreepur)
10. Shamim, 21, son of Ayub Ali (Sreepur)
11. Habib Ahmed, 22, son of Siddique Ali (Sreepur)
12. Ibrahim, 19, son of Mohammad Ali (Shantinagar)
13. Nayan, 19, son of Matin (Tamabil)

The group had crossed into India through Jaflong Zero Point on December 22 and was apprehended by the BSF early Monday morning while attempting to return. Following their detention, the BSF handed them over to Indian authorities.
