Panchagarh: BGB held a Bangladeshi with foreign currencies along border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held Faim Sayed Ahmed
Panchagarh, Jan 10 - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a Bangladeshi man as he allegedly tried to cross over to India through Panchagarh border with some foreign currencies, said the frontier force on Friday morning.
The arrest took place on Thursday night, said BGB sources.
Arrestee Faim Sayed Ahmed, 47, hails from west Tallabagh area of Rayer Bazar in Dhaka.
Lt. Col Monirul Islam, commandant of the BGB-18 Battalion in Panchagarh, said a patrol team detained Faim with some local and foreign currencies including of the US, India, and China, while trying to trespass into India through Amtalli border of Sadar upazila around 9:30pm on Thursday.
The foreign currencies recovered from him are equivalent to Tk 55, 888, he said, adding that two mobile phone sets were also seized from his possession.
Faim was handed over to the Panchagarh Sadar police station where a case was lodged against him, he said.
Drives to curb infiltration, smuggling, drug peddling and other crimes will remain continued, the BGB official added.-UNB
