Bangladeshi man injured in BSF firing along Patgram border
A 40-year-old Bangladeshi man was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Saturday night, authorities said on Sunday.
The injured man, Shahidul Islam, is the son of Jabed Ali from Kashirdanga village, Jagatber union, in the upazila.
According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the incident took place around 11:30 PM when a group of smugglers, including Shahidul, was returning to Bangladesh from India with cattle.
At that time, BSF personnel from the Buraburi camp opened fire on the group, resulting in Shahidul being shot, reports UNB.
His companions managed to rescue him and flee back to Bangladesh, the BGB added.
He is currently receiving treatment at a secret location in Rangpur.
Subedar Jahangir Alam, Shamshernagar Company Commander of the 61st (Tista-2) Battalion of BGB, said that a flag meeting was held at the border on Sunday morning regarding the incident.
The commander of the Mirrapa BSF camp and other officials attended the meeting. "We have protested this incident," he said.
