BGB detains 2 Indian nationals with smuggled goods in Sylhet on Friday. UNB
Sylhet, Jan 17 - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained two Indian nationals along with smuggled goods from the border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj.
The detainees, Korol Garo, 45, and Maluchh Garo, 30, are from Daliabasti village in the Saigram area of East Khasia Hill district of India’s Meghalaya.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from BGB-48 conducted raids in several border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj on Friday, leading to the detentions, according to a press release from the paramilitary force.
The seized goods are estimated to be worth over Tk 43 lakh.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman, Commander of the 48th BGB Battalion, said, "In line with instructions from higher authorities, BGB's operational and intelligence activities continue at full strength to ensure border security and prevent smuggling and illegal infiltration. Following these operations, the smuggled goods and Indian nationals were detained."
He added, "Necessary action will be taken regarding the seized smuggled goods, and the two Indian nationals who entered Bangladesh illegally will be handed over to Doarabazar Police Station." - UNB
