Bangladeshi Man Killed in Border Land Dispute: BGB
A Bangladeshi man was killed in a violent altercation over a land dispute with an Indian national near the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar on Sunday, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) reported.
The incident occurred around five yards inside Bangladesh’s territory, close to the Muraichara Border Outpost (BOP) under the Sreemangal Battalion of BGB.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Md Ahad Ali, was a resident of Prithimpasha Aolachhara village in Kulaura upazila.
According to a BGB statement released on Monday, the dispute involved Ahad Ali and Md Haider Ali, an Indian national from Purba Irani village in the Unukoti district of Tripura, India.
The two men were reportedly engaged in a heated argument over a long-standing land disagreement when Haider Ali allegedly attacked Ahad Ali with a sharp weapon, striking him on the head. Ahad Ali was quickly transported to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries at 3:50 pm on Sunday.
Investigation findings revealed a family connection between the two men. Ahad Ali had married Jamirun Nesa, a resident of Purba Irani village, while Haider Ali was married to Ahad Ali’s sister, Qutubun Nesa.
A murder case has been filed with the Kulaura Police Station. The Border Guard Bangladesh has also formally notified India’s Border Security Force (BSF) about the incident, urging legal action against the accused. The BSF has expressed its cooperation in the matter, according to the BGB’s statement.
