Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained 17 people, including women and children, from Moheshpur border of Jhenaidah while trying to cross the border to enter India.

They were held from Bagadanga, Kholashpur and Palianpur areas of Moheshpur upazila from Friday afternoon to Saturday noon, said a media release sent from the BGB-58 Battalion.

The BGB members conducted drives in the frontier areas and detained them after being informed that some Bangladeshis would go to India illegally, the release said.

Six of them were detained from Bagadanga border, three from Kholashpur and eight from Palianpur. They hail from Khulna, Madaripur and Noakhali, reports UNB.

The detainees were handed over to Moheshpur police station.
