Bus torched as motorbike rider crushed under it in Dhaka

Dhaka, Aug 3 – Amid the ongoing student-led protest across the country demanding safer roads, a bike rider yesterday was killed under a bus at the capital’s Maghbazar area. The rider—one Saiful Islam, 22 was killed when a bus of Satkhira Paribahan hit his motorcycle from behind at around 1:40 pm, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in where he was declared dead by the doctor on duty.
Meanwhile, an agitated mob torched the bus and caught the driver of the killer bus, and handed him over to police after beating him up.
The driver was identified as Imran Hossain, 25. He was in the custody of Ramna police station when this report was filed. His assistant Saimon, however, managed to flee after the incident said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar.
Sardar said Saiful used to work as a nurse at privately-run Dhaka Community Medical College and Hospital, and lived at the capital’s Khilgaon area.
He said the bus was going towards Malibagh when it rear-ended Saiful’s motorcycle right after coming down from the Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover. The bus had dragged Saiful and his motorcycle a few meters forward before stopping.
Sardar said a case will be filed against Hossain. – Staff Reporter
