The price of gold in Bangladesh has fallen below Tk 2 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams) after the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced its fourth consecutive price reduction.

According to a BAJUS press release issued on Tuesday night, the price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 10,474 per bhori, bringing it down to Tk 1,93,809.

The new rates will take effect from Wednesday.

BAJUS said the latest adjustment was made considering the decline in the price of pure (tejabi) gold in the local market.

Under the new rate, the price of 21-carat gold stands at Tk 1,85,003 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1,58,572 per bhori, and traditional gold at Tk 1,31,628 per bhori.

The association also mentioned that a 5% government VAT and a minimum 6% BAJUS-determined making charge must be added to the selling price, with variations depending on jewellery design and quality.

The last price adjustment took place on October 27, when BAJUS reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 3,674 per bhori, setting it at Tk 2,04,283.

So far this year, BAJUS has revised gold prices a total of 70 times — increasing them 48 times and cutting them 22 times, reports UNB.
