Prof Nurul Islam appointed new JU VC
Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam of the Department of Geography and Environment has been appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU).
The Ministry of Education issued a notification today appointing him to the post under Section 11(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973, with the approval of the President and Chancellor.
The notification also relieved Prof Nurul Islam of his position as Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University (DCU), which he had been holding alongside his professorship at JU.
According to the notification, his tenure as JU VC will be four years from the date of his joining the post or until his retirement, whichever is earlier.
Earlier, Prof Nurul Islam was appointed VC of Dhaka Central University on March 16, 2026. He also served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of National University from November 3, 2024.
Prof Nurul Islam obtained his PhD from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom in 2011. He completed his BSc (Honours) and MSc (Thesis) in Geography from Jahangirnagar University in 1992 and 1993, respectively, reports BSS.
