Naogaon University has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch academic programmes in two new departments – English and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).

The Department of English will be under the Faculty of Arts, while the Department of Computer Science and Engineering will be under the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Hasanath Ali said the approval was communicated through a letter signed by Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan, additional director of the Public University Management Division at the UGC.

Under the conditions set by the UGC in line with the Naogaon University Act, 2023, each department will be allowed to admit a maximum of 40 undergraduate students per academic year.

The university must also prepare and obtain approval for the curricula of both departments from the relevant authorities.

Dr Hasanath Ali said the university had already taken the necessary steps to fulfil the conditions set by the UGC for launching the two departments.

With the addition of the two departments, the university will have four departments in total. Academic activities are already underway in Accounting and Law.

Meanwhile, the UGC has also approved funds for hiring a microbus for teachers and staff and a large bus for students at the university.

According to a UGC memorandum dated November 1, permission has been granted to hire the two vehicles, reports UNB.

The VC said the tender process for hiring the microbus and the large bus had already been completed.
