RU students demand opening halls for admission seekers

Rajshahi: Some Students of Rajshahi University on Tuesday demanded reopening of the residential halls to ensure accommodation for the admission seekers.

Around fifty students of the university formed a human chain in front of the Shahid Tajuddin Ahmad Senate Building under the banner of ‘Student Rights Association’ to press home their demand.

Addressing the human chain, the speakers said that the university authorities were about to hold its admission tests for the first-year honours courses under 2020-2021 academic sessions from 4 October, by keeping the residential halls closed.

The organization’s president KM Sakib said, at present, the students are staying at mess houses and other places in the city in an unhygienic condition and suffering from various problems such as insecurity, teasing, and assault by mess owners.

The speakers urged the university authorities to open the halls before the admission test to ensure fair and safe accommodation for the admission seekers.

Law department associate professor Shahin Zohora, International Relations department student Mashiur Rahman, Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakshan Parishad leader Amanullah Aman, among others, spoke at the human chain. – RU Correspondent
