JU celebrates 103rd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu

The 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed Friday at Jahangirnagar University (JU) with huge enthusiasm and in a befitting manner.



 The 103rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed Friday at Jahangirnagar University (JU) with huge enthusiasm and in a befitting manner.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader

of the Bangalee nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times was born in a respected Muslim family at Tungipara in Gopalganj district.

To mark the day, the university authorities organised daylong programmes on

the campus.

JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Nurul Alam paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a floral wreath at his portrait at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall around 10:30 am this morning.

JU Pro VC (Administration) Professor Md Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq, Treasurer

Rasheda Akhter, Registrar Rahima Kaniz, Deans of faculties, Provosts of dormitories and teachers of different departments and institutes accompanied him.

Later, Jahangirnagar University Teachers' Association (JUTA), JU Bangabandhu Shikkok Parishad, Teacher-Student Centre also placed a floral wreath.

Besides, a drawing and essay competition was organised at Jahangirnagar University School and College this morning to mark the day.

Meanwhile, a special doa mahfil was arranged at the central mosque and all

other mosques after Asr prayers.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit also arranged various programmes marking the day.

Leaders and activists of JU BCL led by its president Akhtaruzzaman Sohel and general secretary Habibur Rahman Liton paid homage at the altar of Bangabandhu in front of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall by placing floral wreath at 11am.

Later, they organised a cake-cutting program around 12 pm on the central Shaheed Minar premises of the university.

After the Jumuah prayers, they organised a milad mahfil and a special prayer at the central mosque of the university.

Marking the day, the entire university area was illuminated with colourful lights and a balanced diet was served at the dormitories.
