Student 'tortured' by BCL women at Jagannath varsity

A student of Jagannath University (JnU) has filed a complaint accusing some female Chhatra League activists of torturing her keeping her confined for three hours at a dormitory.



A student of Jagannath University (JnU) has filed a complaint accusing some female Chhatra League activists of torturing her keeping her confined for three hours at a dormitory.

The accused are Tamanna Islam Tonni, Falguni Akter, Ninza Shikdar, Ira and Nazmoon Nahar Shorna.

The victim filed the written complaint on Wednesday (May 17).

According to the complaint, on Tuesday, an altercation over a trifling matter took place between the victim student with a junior student Rebeka Khatun of Botany Department. Later, Rebeka called other BCL activist of the room and tortured the victim in the room from 8:30pm-11:30pm keeping her confined.

They also used abusive words, the victim alleged.

At one stage, the victim student became unconscious.

Keeping anonymity, a student of the dormitory said, "My room is beside the victim's room. Hearing chaos, I went to that room and tried to took the victim out of the room. But Rebeka, Ninza and Falguni confined her."

Regarding the issue, Provost Prof Dipeeka Rani Sarker said, " This type of incident has been taking place in the hall for the last few days. We are anxious about this. Getting complaint, we are sitting over the issue."
