Pabna University VC freed after 4 hours of confinement

Dr M Rostom Ali, VC of Pabna University of Science Technology freed after 4 hours of confinement.



 After remaining confined for four hours by the teachers, students over allegations of irregularities in recruitment process Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science Technology(PUST), Dr M Rostom Ali was freed on Thursday evening.

He was locked in his office room at the university until around 5:30 pm when he was released with the intervention of police, Rowshan Yazdani, Inspector (investigation) of Pabna police station.

Police were deployed on the campus after being informed, he said.

Due to his confinement a meeting of the PUST regent board scheduled today could not be held, said D Md Abdul Alim, Associate Professor of Bangla Department.

Professor Abdul Alim said, “The PUST VC has recruited some 101 people through an irregular, corrupt and opaque process. At the end of his tenure the university has become an arena of kinship, corruption and anti-social activities.”

Professor Abdul Alim has solely conducted several hunger strikes and sit-ins demanding an end to these irregularities of the authority

Some other teachers from different departments of the university on Thursday also alleged the VC of recruiting unskilled people and conducting irregularities in other sectors too.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) found evidence of corruption and irregularities Rajshahi University's Vice Chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan, who was made a member of the PUST regent board in 2020 and several others of the PUST.

When contacted the PUST VC in this regard he did not respond.
