KUET Students Lock up VC, Call Boycott Over 5-Point Demand
A group of protesting students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has locked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Mashud, in his office and announced a boycott of classes and exams, demanding the fulfillment of five key demands, including a ban on student politics on campus.
"The VC is being kept confined in a room at the university, and the students have stated they will not release him until he resigns," reports our Khulna correspondent.
This protest follows a clash earlier in the day between KUET students and Jatiotabadi Chatradal activists, who reportedly distributed recruitment forms on campus.
The students' demands, as outlined in a press statement released on Tuesday night, include:
1. The resignation of the Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Director of Student Welfare.
2. Punishment for those responsible for the clash and violence against students.
3. A university ordinance banning all political involvement by students, teachers, and staff, with severe penalties for violations, including expulsion and cancellation of student status.
4. Filing charges of attempted murder and sabotage against those involved in the attack. The protesting students will provide a list of individuals implicated.
5. Deployment of military forces on campus for student safety until February 28, and the university covering medical expenses for all injured students, with a list to be provided by the protesters.
The students have given the university administration until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19, to meet their demands, warning they will continue their boycott of classes and exams until their conditions are addressed.
