Intern doctors at Mitford Hospital began a one-day strike on Sunday, demanding improved security on the hospital premises.

The strike, which started at 8am, has disrupted regular hospital operations. Students of Sir Salimullah Medical College also joined the work abstention in solidarity.

The Intern Doctors' Society (IDS) announced the strike on Saturday night, citing a deteriorating security situation.

In a statement, intern doctors expressed concern over what they described as an "ongoing insecure environment" within the hospital and on campus. They said the strike was a protest against the lack of safety for medical personnel.

Their concerns intensified following the brutal killing of a man in front of the Ansar camp inside the hospital grounds on July 9. In a previously issued memorandum, the intern doctors condemned the incident and demanded justice and a fair trial for those responsible.
