Govt appoints new vice-chancellors for six universities

Following the appointment of a new vice-chancellor at University of Dhaka, the government has named new vice-chancellors for six other public universities, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Monday. 


Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education, the minister said official notifications regarding the appointments will be issued soon.

The new appointments are:

·  Professor Md Faridul Islam – Vice-Chancellor of University of Rajshahi

·  Professor Dr. Md. Rais Uddin – Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University; he is currently chairman of the university’s Islamic Studies Department and president of the teachers’ association

·  Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan – Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University

·  Professor Md Nurul Islam – Vice-Chancellor of Central University; currently serving as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of National University

·  Professor Md Masud – Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET)

·  Professor Md Al Forqan – Vice-Chancellor of University of Chittagong

In addition, Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, currently vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University, has been appointed vice-chancellor of University of Dhaka. He is a professor in the Physics Department of the university, reports UNB. 

Professor Mamun Ahmed, currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, has been appointed chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).
