Swastika Mukherjee, Mamata Shankar coming to Dhaka

While the festival schedule is yet to be published, we got an excited news about a cinema which will be screening in fifth days of event.



Renowned actors Mamata Shankar and Swastika Mukherjee are coming to Dhaka this January. Their film, ‘Bijoyar pore’ (Autumn Files) directed by multifaceted Indian filmmaker Abhijit SriDas, is competing at the Cinema of the World Section of the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).

The nine days festival will be held in Dhaka from January 20 to 28, 2024. The festival has been organized by Rainbow Film Society, which is one of the most active film entities in the film society movement of Bangladesh. They always organize a film festival with full of seminars, masterclasses, and workshops. The 22nd DIFF is also set with conferences, masterclasses and seminars by international renowned artists at three venues.

‘Bijoyar pore’ (Autumn Files) a film directed by multifaceted Indian creative professional filmmaker Abhijit SriDas. This film featured popular casts, including renowned actors Mamata Shankar and Swastika Mukherjee.

The film ‘Bijoyar Pore’ (Autumn Files) got Official Selection of Cinema of the World Selection at 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).

The film is a poignant tale of love, family bonds, and reunion during Durga Puja. It portrays a dramatic scenario where Mizanur tries to influence Mrinmoyee to convert to Islam by pretending to love her and getting married. This is part of a larger plot where Muslims are depicted as engaging in a kind of 'war' against India. Additionally, there's a storyline about an international conspiracy aimed at achieving dominance through demographic growth and replacement.

Swastika Mukherjee, well known Indian actress, who appears in Bengali and Hindi films and television. She made her debut with a Bengali TV series, Devdasi. She shared big screen in 2001 with Hemanter Pakhi. Now in 2023 in latest film ‘Bijoyar Pore’ Swastika Mukherjee played the role as Mrinmoyee.

During conference, Swastika Mukherjee expressed that, in her experience, new directors have the ability to produce fantastic films, citing 'Bijoyar Pore' as evidence of their remarkable talent. Additionally, she shared a sense of nostalgia while working with Deepankar De in the movie.

Mamata Shankar, renowned for her work in Bengali cinema and as a dance choreographer. She made her debut film ‘Mrigayaa’ (The Royal Hunt) in 1976 directed by Mrinal Sen.

She credited the entire team for her commendable performance during the 'Bijoyar Pore' conference. She revealed that initially, she turned down the role but was later persuaded by the director, Abhijit, to take it on.

The film will screen at the DIFF on January 24, 2024 at 7pm at the Main Auditorium of National Museum, Shahbagh. The highlight of this screening is the thrilling opportunity for the audience to not only watch but also engage with actors Swastika Mukherjee and Mamata Shankar in a Q&A session.

The audiences and film enthusiasts are invited to attend the session by maintaining the rules of entries of the festival.
