Chirkutt-The Global Bangladeshi band and the Norwegian prominent singer-songwriter and climate activist Marte Wulff recently launched the song “Let The Light In.”

The musical collaboration started when Sharmin Sultana Sumi, Chirkutt’s founder and lead singer attended an international music conference at the University of Agder in Norway last year as keynote speaker.

In Norway, Sumi shared insights from her 21 yearlong musical journey, highlighting her experience of being a woman in the entertainment industry.

On 1 February 2024, The Royal Norwegian embassy in Dhaka celebrated this Norway-Bangladesh musical collaboration and the launch of the new song “Let The Light In” with a live performance by Chirkutt. HE Espen Rikter-Svendsen, Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh, diplomats, representatives from think-tanks, business communities and development partners took part in the cultural celebration.

Norway and the popular Bangladeshi rock band Chirkutt share a long history of musical partnership, cultural exchange and friendship. Chirkutt's collaboration with Norway started in 2011 with Rikskonsertene (National Traveling Concerts) and Live Square music, Bangladesh.

This was a new start for the rock band and since that they never looked back. The Norwegian Embassy has played a significant role to strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries through this collaboration.

In addition to receiving great popularity in Bangladesh, Chirkutt has spread their music around the world by performing at several of the world's biggest music festivals, holding concerts in renowned places like Madison Square Garden and collaborated with many national and international artists.

With original music full of soulfulness and spirit, Chirkutt works for youth and climate. Recently they created “Nodi Rocks”: composing one song for each river in Bangladesh to create love for the rivers and create awareness among youth about climate vulnerability.

The new collaboration "Let The Light In" aims to raise awareness of the urgent climate change issues and the need for global solidarity in peace.
