Allegations of rape of 5-year-old girl in Kalapara

Patuakhali: A young man named Kashem (35) has been accused of raping a 5-year-old girl in Kalapara, Patuakhali. When the child was brought to Kalapara Hospital at 8 pm on Saturday (January 4), the doctor on duty sent her to Barisal Shebachim Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. However, the police have not yet been able to arrest Kashem over this incident.

According to police and the child's family sources, Kashem works as a labourer at the house of Mahbub Gazi in Kumirmara village of Nilganj union of the upazila. Kashem, a neighbour, brought the child from his sleeping mother at around 4 am yesterday. The child's mother, who is hearing impaired, could not understand the matter. Later, he took the child to a nearby beel and raped her and brought her back home an hour later. In the evening, the child's body became weak due to bleeding throughout the day, and she was brought to Kalapara Hospital at around 8 pm.

Kalapara Police Station OC Jewel Islam said that police members visited the scene based on a verbal complaint. After finding the initial truth, efforts are underway to arrest the accused. - Gofran Palash
