Dense fog forced the authorities to suspend vehicular movement on the Bangabandhu Bridge from early Thursday .

Dense fog forced the authorities to suspend vehicular movement on the Bangabandhu Bridge from early Thursday (December 29).
Toll collection and traffic movement on the bridge remained halted from early today, causing long tailbacks at both ends of the bridge.
Staffers in the bridge’s traffic control room said toll collection was stopped to prevent accidents on the bridge as visibility dropped below 40 metres due to heavy fog.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station, said the suspension of vehicular movement caused 15-kilometre-long tailback from the eastern end of the bridge up to Elenga in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila.
The OC hoped that the vehicular movement will resume once the fog disappears.
