The United Arab Emirates says its air defences intercepted ballistic and cruise missiles fired from Iran and a fire broke out at an oil facility in Fujairah after a reported drone attack.
An unnamed Iranian military official tells state media there was no “planned” attack on the energy facility and instead blamed “US military adventurism”.
US President Donald Trump has warned Iran will be “blown off the face of the Earth” if any US navy ships come under fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military said it sank several Iranian small boats that attempted to interfere with commercial shipping, as US forces attempt to escort vessels through the blockaded waterway.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says “events in Hormuz make clear there’s no military solution to a political crisis”, adding “talks are making progress” with Pakistan as a mediator.
