Explosions heard again in Riyadh
RIYADH, Sept. 19 (Xinhua/UNB) -- Explosions were heard again in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Saturday, the second such incident in the city on the same day.
Smoke was seen rising near King Khalid International Airport in the northeastern part of the city. The airport is currently operating normally, though some flights have been delayed.
The first explosions were heard at around 3 a.m. local time (0000 GMT), with residents receiving alerts via a mobile app. The Saudi Civil Defense said on the social platform X that the national early warning platform had issued an alert for Riyadh, then announced 10 minutes later that the danger had passed.
Saudi authorities have released no further information about the two incidents.
The alert is reportedly the first for Riyadh since recent escalations between Yemen's Houthi group and Saudi Arabia, marked by increased Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi military and oil sites. The Houthis, meanwhile, claim that Saudi warplanes have intensified airstrikes across Yemen. - UNB
