The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis has rejected what it described as false allegations that Saudi Arabia intends to target tribal and civilian gatherings in Yemen.

In a statement posted on X, the coalition’s spokesperson said the Houthi claims were “baseless” and constituted a campaign to mislead public opinion and fuel divisions between Yemeni tribes.

The coalition reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Yemen’s security and stability, saying it would not allow Yemeni tribes to be drawn into conflicts that undermine peace and development.

The statement follows a warning issued by Yemen’s Defence Ministry that Houthi-organised tribal gatherings could be considered “legitimate military targets”.

Yemen’s defence minister has since apologised for the warning, calling it “wrong and unacceptable”, and ordered an investigation. He said the armed forces would not target tribal gatherings or other civilian assemblies, reports AL Jazeera.
