At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over supremacy in Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Saturday.

Five of the injured sustained bullet wounds, said Sajib Dey, Inspector (Investigations) of Munshiganj Police Station.

The violence erupted in Chardumuria village of Mollakandi, involving supporters of Switzerland BNP member Rahim Mollah and local BNP activist Awlad Mollah.

During the clash, witnesses reported a cocktail explosion and the use of firearms.

Zarina Begum, 40, Didar Mia, 35, and Amena Begum, 22, received primary treatment at Munshiganj General Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better care, reports UNB.

Inspector Sajib Dey said that the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order.

Dr. Shahriar Hafiz, an emergency department physician at Munshiganj General Hospital, confirmed that five individuals, including those with gunshot wounds, were treated and referred to Dhaka Medical College for advanced treatment.
