Five civilians killed in Indian shelling, says Pakistan

Five civilians were killed overnight in Pakistan-administered Kashmir due to shelling by Indian forces, according to a Pakistani government official, following several days of cross-border fire between the two sides.

The casualties occurred near the Line of Control (LoC), the heavily fortified boundary that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

"Indian forces targeted civilian areas, resulting in four deaths, including a two-year-old girl, and injuring 12 others," said Adeel Khan, a police official in Kotli district. He added that the shelling continued late into the night.

In response, the Pakistani military launched retaliatory strikes, reportedly targeting three Indian posts across the LoC.

A senior official in Muzaffarabad, speaking anonymously, confirmed the fatalities in Kotli and said another civilian was killed in Bagh district.

"A mortar shell hit a home in Bagh, killing a young man and injuring his two sisters," said a local security official.
