No evidence Iran pursuing nuclear weapons: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated that there is no evidence indicating Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
In remarks published on 21 June, Putin stated that neither Russia nor the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has ever obtained proof that Iran is working to acquire nuclear arms.
“Russia, as well as the IAEA, has never had any evidence that Iran is preparing to obtain nuclear weapons, as we have repeatedly informed the Israeli leadership,” he said.
Putin also affirmed that Moscow supports Iran’s right to pursue a peaceful nuclear programme in accordance with international law.
His comments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly in the context of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, Putin noted that Russia is actively sharing proposals with both Tehran and Tel Aviv to help de-escalate the situation. However, he did not disclose the specifics of these proposals.
This development highlights Russia’s continued role in Middle Eastern diplomacy and its alignment with Iran, even as Western countries remain concerned about Iran’s nuclear intentions.
