A strike was reported near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant late on Friday, but no radiation leak or damage to the reactor has been detected, the UN nuclear watchdog said.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iranian authorities informed the agency that the plant remained fully operational and had suffered no technical or structural damage.

The reported incident came as tensions in the Middle East continued to escalate, marking the third known strike-related event involving Iranian nuclear-linked facilities in the past 10 days.

Earlier on Friday, the Israeli military said it had struck a heavy water reactor and a uranium processing facility in central Iran, though it made no mention of Bushehr.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for “maximum military restraint”, warning of the dangers of attacks near sensitive nuclear infrastructure.

Iranian state-linked media reported that a projectile landed within the grounds of the Bushehr facility at around 11:40 pm local time, blaming the attack on what it described as the “American-Zionist enemy”.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or visible damage at the site.

Located in southwestern Iran, Bushehr is the country’s only operational nuclear power reactor. It was first connected to the national electricity grid in 2011 and remains one of Iran’s most strategically significant nuclear facilities.

The reported strike has renewed fears over the security of nuclear sites as the regional conflict widens and military operations intensify.
