PIC Ishwardi hosts seminar for Rooppur NPP stakeholders

With an objective of enhancing communications among the stakeholders of Rooppur NPP in the region, Public Information Centre on Nuclear (PIC) at Ishwardi organised a seminar followed by Iftar Mahfil at its premises recently. 

The program was also a part of celebrating Bangla New Year - 1429 and was supported by Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) Bangladesh, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and State Corporation ROSATOM of Russia.

Over 60 representatives from Ishwardi Municipality, Rooppur NPP, BAEC, Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) attended the seminar, including Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes and Mayor Ishwardi Municipality Ishaq Ali Malitha.

Eng. Ashraful Islam, Site Director of Rooppur NPP informed about the NPP current status and answered to questions from the participants. PIC project manager Ashik Hider made a presentation on the overall activities of the centre including major programs undertaken in 2021-2022, statistics about the participants and visitors of the PIC itself. The partner organisation expressed their interest in participating the events to be held in future.

PIC Ishwardi started functioning at its present premises at Ishwardi Municipality Building on November 30, 2020. The PIC is open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm every day except Sunday to provide information on different aspects of Rooppur NPP. Besides that, PIC organizes various programs and events, distributes educational materials to promote science and technology, create and enhance public awareness about peaceful use of nuclear energy.
