
Man sentenced to death for killingt Nandini in Lalmonirhar
Lalmonirhat, Aug 23 - A Lalmonirhat court on Sunday sentenced the prime accused to death for the much-talked-about killing of seven-year-old girl Nandini Kanta Roy in Aditmari upazila.
The condemned convict is Bidhan Chandra, son of Ranjit Kumar of Folimari village in the upazila.
Lalmonirhat District and Sessions Judge Haider Ali also sentenced Ranjit and his wife Mamata Rani to five years’ imprisonment each, fined them Tk 5,000 each. In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to serve three more months in jail.
According to the prosecution, Nandini, daughter of Nalini Mohon Barman, went missing from Folimari village on June 16, 2026.
Police recovered her body, packed in a sack, from a maize field of the village the following day.
They also arrested Bidhan and his father Ranjit in connection with the incident.
A clash broke out between police and agitated villagers when police were taking the two suspects to the police station from the scene, leaving 30 people, including 18 policemen, injured.
During the violence, seven vehicles, including those used by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), were also vandalised.
The victim’s father filed a murder case naming Bidhan, Ranjit and Mamata.
Expressing satisfaction at the verdict, Nandini’s father demanded its quick execution. - UNB
