Sedition case: Ex-Cantonment OC Rakibul put on 5-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday put former Officer-in-Charge of Cantonment Police Station Md Rakibul Hasan on five-day remand in a sedition case filed over allegedly spreading anti-state and provocative statements on social media.
Judge of the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Md Didarul Alam passed the order when police produced him before it, seeking seven days’ remand in the case.
Earlier in the day, police arrested the former OC from Rajarbagh in the capital in the case, said Md Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He said the remand was sought for intensive interrogation to ensure a proper investigation and uncover the alleged conspiracy behind the incident.
On September 17, Rakibul was withdrawn as OC and attached to the DMP headquarters after an audio clip went viral on social media where he was allegedly heard criticising the government, administration, Bangladesh Army and the police force, reports UNB.
Later, he was taken into custody of the Detective Branch of police.
