3 accused in Shahjahanpur double murder case sent to jail

A court here today sent three accused to jail in a case lodged over the murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity in capital's Shahjahanpur area on March 24. 

The three accused are- Estiak Ahammed, Emran Hossain and Rakibur Rahman. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid passed the order as police produced the trio before the court after the end of their remand in the case and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of the probe. 

A court on June 16 had placed Estiak Ahammed on a three-day remand, while the other two were remanded for two-day each by another court on June 17. 

Tipu, former general secretary of Motijheel thana Awami League, was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home on the night of March 24. He was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital's Shahjahanpur area as his vehicle got stuck in traffic.

Rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also got shot by stray bullets and died on the spot. Tipu's driver Munna got shot on his hand in the incident.

Tipu's wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police station, reports BSS.
