Paragon Knit MD, 7 others jailed for 17-year in graft case

A Dhaka court Sunday convicted and sentenced eight people including the managing director (MD) of Paragon Knit Composite Ltd. to 17-year imprisonment each in a graft case.



 A Dhaka court Sunday convicted and sentenced eight people including the managing director (MD) of Paragon Knit Composite Ltd. to 17-year imprisonment each in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The convicts are Paragon Knit Composite Ltd. MD Md Saiful Islam Raja, its director Abdullah Al Mamun, Sonali Bank Limited AGM Saiful Hasan, GM Mir Mohidur Rahman, GM Noni Gopal Nath, AGM Md Kamrul Hossain Khan, DMD Md Mainul Haque and former MD Md Humayun Kabir. The court also sentenced another convict Sheikh Altaf Hossain to eight-year imprisonment.
Judge Iqbal Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 pronounced the judgment in presence of the four convicts- Md Mainul Haque, Sheikh Altaf Hossain, Mir Mohidur Rahman and Md Kamrul Hossain Khan.
The court sent them to jail with conviction warrant and issued arrest warrant against the five fugitive convicts.
ACC filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station on January 1, 2013, for misappropriating Taka 1, 25, 70,220 of Sonali Bank through forgery in collusion with each other. ACC filed charge-sheet on May 22, 2014.
The court on April 6, 2015, framed charges in the case and examined 44 out of total 60 witnesses during the hearing of the case.
