A court in Dhaka has placed three accused on one day's remand in connection with physically assaulting private television channel DBC News' staff reporter Saiful Islam Jewel and cameraperson Azad Ahmed.

Two other remanded accused are Sumon Mia and Masum Billah.

Besides, five other accused have been sent to jail.

They are Hafiz, Mohsin Bhuiyan, Mahbub Hossain, Asif Akbar and Maksudullah.

Producing the accused before the court on Wednesday (August 3), Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station sub-inspector Rupu Karr pleaded to place them on a five-day remand.

On the other hand, lawyers representing the accused pleaded for bail during the hearing cancelling the remand order.

After hearing the both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy placed three accused on one day's remand and ordered to send five other accused to jail.

The case statement reads that when DBC News' staff reporter Saiful Islam Jewel and cameraperson Azad Ahmed went to Victor Trading Corporation on early Tuesday afternoon to collect information about irregularities and corruption in purchasing medical equipment, owner of the firm Kawsar Bhuiyan and his associates launched attack on them and physically assaulted them.

The attackers also damage their camera and deleted the video footage.
