Double murder: 17 get life term imprisonment

A Khulna court sentenced 17 people to life term imprisonment in a case filed over the double murder in Terokhada upazila of the district in 2019.

A Khulna court sentenced 17 people to life term imprisonment in a case filed over the double murder in Terokhada upazila of the district in 2019.
Judge Md Nazrul Islam Hawladar of Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Court handed down the verdict in presence of all the accused around 12:30 pm on Sunday (September 4).
At the same time, the court fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve one more year in jail.
The court also acquitted two other accused of the case as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
The convicts are Chagladah UP chairman SM Din Islam, 54, Abdur Rahman, 55, Jamir Sheikh, 25, Sheikh Saiful Islam, 35, Khalid Sheikh, 32, Eskandar Sheikh, 42, Jashim Sheikh, 35, Hossain Sheikh, 30, Ziarul Sheikh, 26, Baharul Sheikh, 24, Abbas Sheikh, 24, Ahidul Gazi, 34, Khairul Sheikh, 35, Keramot Mollik, 35, Mahbur Sheikh, 49, Babu Sheikh, 35, and Nur Islam Sheikh, 37.
The acquitted are Abu Sayed Biswas, 35, and Ayeb Sheikh, 50.
Mentionable, the convicts hacked a young man named Naeem Sheikh in Pahardanga village of Terkhadar Chagladah union to death on August 7, 2019 over land dispute.
A day after this incident, on August 8, the victim’s mother, Mafuza Begum, filed a murder case with Terkhada Police Station.
Naeem’s father Piru Mia Sheikh (55), who was seriously injured in that incident, died two and a half months later while undergoing treatment in Dhaka. Later, the case turned into a double murder case.
