A Cox’s Bazar court has sentenced seven members of the Detective Branch of Police to seven years in jail for kidnapping a businessman and taking ransom.



A Cox’s Bazar court has sentenced seven members of the Detective Branch of Police to seven years in jail for kidnapping a businessman and taking Tk 17 lakh as ransom.
The court has also fined them Tk one lakh each and in default they will have to serve another one year in jail.
Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail passed the order on Tuesday noon.
The convicts are SI Moniruzzaman, 35, SI Abul Kalam Azad, 39, ASI Golam Mostafa, 36, ASI Feroj Ahmed, 34, ASI Alauddin, 32, constable Mostafa Ajal, 52, and constable Md Al Amin, 26.
According to the case statement, in October of 2017, seven DB men kidnapped blanket trader Abdul Gafur, younger brother of Teknaf municipality mayor Moniruzzaman, from the district town and took Tk 17 lakh as ransom.
