9 get life term for killing housewife after rape

A court in Jhenidah on Tuesday sentenced nine people to life imprisonment for killing a housewife after gang rape at Sadar upazila in the district in 2011.



A court in Jhenidah on Tuesday sentenced nine people to life imprisonment for killing a housewife after gang rape at Sadar upazila in the district in 2011.
Jhenidah Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mizanur Rahman pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The convicts are Rosul, Shoriful, Amirul, Golam Rosul, Abdul Aziz, Azizur Rahman, Zahidul Islam, Badsha Miah and Baten. The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each.
Bazlur Rahman, public prosecutor of the court, confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Renu Begum, wife of Arab Ali, a resident of Bishkhali village, on March, 2011, after raping her at a bamboo plantation, abducting her from the house.
A case was filed by the victim's husband with Jhenidah Sadar Police Station accusing 10 people. One of them died before the trial.
