Besides, Dr Yunus, Managing Director Ashraful Hasan of Grameen Telecom Limited was made defendant in the cases.
Eight former officials of Grameen Telecom filed eight separate cases with the Third Labour Courts of Dhaka on November 9.
The officials’ counsel Barrister H M Sanjid Siddiqui confirmed the media about filing the cases.
Barrister Siddiqui said the eight officials were working for Grameen Telecom from 2006 to 2009. The Labour Law says of the dividend of company, five per cent would be given to the workers’ welfare fund.
As Grameen Telecom allegedly deprived the workers of the dividend violating the Labour Law, they sent legal notice to the company.
Nonetheless, the company did not take any action and on November 9, the officials filed eight separate cases with the Third Labour Court of Dhaka under Section 213 of the Labour Law.
Taking into cognizance the cases, the court directed the Telecom Authorities to submit their written objections by January 15 of 2023.
The cases have been filed against Dr Muhammad Yunus, who is the Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Limited and Chairman of the Grameen Telecom Management Board, the case filing lawyer said. - Special Correspondent
